{"id":2102,"date":"2018-04-15T19:42:22","date_gmt":"2018-04-15T16:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev.kim.lv\/?p=2102"},"modified":"2018-05-01T15:59:32","modified_gmt":"2018-05-01T12:59:32","slug":"maija-tabaka-valdis-abolins-portrait","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kim.lv\/en\/maija-tabaka-valdis-abolins-portrait\/","title":{"rendered":"Maija Tabaka. &#8220;Valdis \u0100boli\u0146\u0161 Portrait&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"The Case in the Cafe was a series of events initiated by <em>kim?<\/em> Contemporary Art Centre in order to investigate the connection of abstract ideas by penetrating some specific spots (authors, works, events) of art in 20th and 21st century Latvia and beyond, which in the framework of this investigation process and still being left without the presence of the \u201cbig\u201d theories works for a further construction of informative perception.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <em>kim? <\/em>newsletter of September 26 states: <em>Valdis \u0100boli\u0146\u0161 (b. on April 14, 1939, Liep\u0101ja, d. on February 14, 1984, West Berlin) was, among other things, a dedicated Marxist.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An e-mail correspondence followed, cited here in the form of loosely yet deliberately selected extracts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>K.\u0100. in an e-mail to A.M.: <em>It is complete nonsense that my brother was a convinced Marxist. What is true is that back then we were the most engaged into Marxism. <\/em><\/p>\n<span class=\"indent\"><\/span>J.B. in an e-mail to Z.O.: <em>And where did that Marxist come from? Did not it come from me? Indeed \u2013 from a Marxist position he used to properly refresh me in my love for capitalism. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>K.\u0100. in an e-mail to Z.O.: <em>This \u2018in contradictu\u2019 rhetoric has been celebrated since the Roman times. Caesar, Tacitus and others used it. In its simplest form it is this: as a convinced abstainer I will now order 100 ml of vodka; or as a convinced antichrist I will go to the Lord\u2019s supper tomorrow, receive the Holy Communion and confess my sins. Valdis\u2019 assured talk about Marxism was nothing else than a call for appreciation of his own work and actions.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<span class=\"indent\"><\/span>J.B. in an e-mail to Z.O.: <em>There was this anecdote: &#8220;The Great Soviet Encyclopaedia included an ancient Russian folk saying: \u201cAn uninvited guest is worse than a Tatar\u201d. Great indignation of Soviet Tatars followed, who pointed to the essence of the saying directed against the \u201cfriendship of peoples\u201d. It was demanded that the editorial board of the encyclopaedia make the necessary corrections. The editorial board recognized the Tatar claim and the reviewed edition of the encyclopaedia contained a new version of the saying: \u201cAn uninvited guest is better than a Tatar.\u201d This is how I am ready to acknowledge Valdis \u0100boli\u0146\u0161 as an \u2018unconvinced Marxist\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Case in the Cafe was a series of events initiated by kim?
