The exhibition “Collection I” is the first one in the series of exhibitions displaying artworks from the collection of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art. In this exhibition Kim?\u00a0offers a concentrated, reflective and kaleidoscopic glance at the collection. The aim of these exhibitions is not only to inspire Kim?\u00a0visitors to ponder over the diverse means of expression in contemporary art, but also over how and why art relates to each and every one of us.<\/p>\n
Five installations created over the past decade by Latvian artists have been chosen for this exhibition. The\u00a0 five installations represent two generations of contemporary art in Latvia: Andris Bre\u017ee (*1958) \u201eStrukt\u016bras I \u2013 IV\u201d (Structure I \u2013 IV) (1999), Sarm\u012bte M\u0101li\u0146a (*1960) \u201eValoda\u201d (Language) (1989-1996), \u0122irts Korps (*1976) \u201eUntitled\u201d (2008), Krist\u012bne Kursi\u0161a (*1979) \u201eKarmas diagnostika\u201d (Diagnostics of Karma) (2003), Evel\u012bna Dei\u010dmane (*1978) \u201e\u0145e me\u010dtaj i \u0146e dumaj\u201d (Do Not Dream And Do Not Think Of It) (2008). These works being remarkable facts of art of their time, have already gained recognition in exhibitions both home and abroad, however in this exhibition they create an unexampled context, engaging in new conversations with each other as well as with the visitors. Video interviews with the artists elucidating on the narratives and motives found in their works make a notable complement to the exhibition. The exhibition is aimed at a very wide public \u2013 not only art enthusiasts and professionals, but also inquisitives youths, dads, moms and kids as well as their grandparents.<\/p>\n
