Video \u201cThe Land of Happiness\u201d (2008, the collection of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art) is about the searching of one\u2019s home. It begins with finding the place. This is followed by reclamation of the space \u2013 dusting and besoming the waste of previous owners, introducing one\u2019s own order and belongings. And then the place becomes your home until you pack your things and leave it for a new one.\u00a0 The land of happiness is the place we look for until we find\/don\u2019t find it or maybe we create it ourselves.<\/p>\n
Video \u201cEnticement\u201d (2010) invites the viewer to enjoy the beauty of an ordinary piece of textile. The video is structured as a book \u2013 layers of textile\u00a0 are leafed through like pages. As soon as the viewer opens the first page, he\/she finds himself\/herself in a wonderful world, where one can explore, enjoy and marvel. Touch and vision creates images in one\u2019s fantasy.\u00a0 Images come into existence and begin a life of their own. One beauty becomes a material for another.<\/p>\n
Object \u201cOn Your Own\u201d (2010) is an attempt to reflect on the never-ceasing thought process. The mechanical movement of the image of the transparent rocking-chair \u201cput\u201d in the frame of the object creates an illusion of rocking. Those are the ideal circumstances for not doing anything, for resting, for being on your own, for thinking things through.<\/p>\n
The title of the exhibition is borrowed from the essay by philosopher Walter Benjamin, which speaks about things in a room and their value. \u201e..And the secret of their value is simplicity \u2013 the modesty of living space where the space they occupy now, as well as the space which they are invited to occupy is visible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Artist and stage designer Dace D\u017eeri\u0146a has participated in exhibitions since 1998 and has taken part in group exhibitions both in Latvia and abroad: Italy (\u201cLa Riga\u201d, 2003), Lithuania (\u201c2 SHOW\u201d, 2003), the Netherlands (\u201cArt Primeur 2001\u201d, 2001), Germany (\u201cRiga Line Up\u201d, 2004, \u201cTime Will Show\u201d, 2008) and others. D\u017eeri\u0146a has worked as a stage designer since 2000 (\u201cBenjami\u0146a. How Modern Man Ought to Live\u201d, \u201cRaggedy Ann\u201d, \u201cThe Blue Bird\u201d, \u201cHotel Kristina\u201d, \u201cMolly Sweeney\u201d, “Possible Worlds\u201d, \u201cTop Girls\u201d and others). In 2002, D\u017eeri\u0146a received the Artists Union of Latvia Award for creative innovation in exhibition \u201cThe Creative Evening; Old Monkey \u2013 100\u201d\u201d (together with artists Anta Pence and Dita Pence).
