The image\/prototype that permeates Sab\u012bne Vernere\u2019s works stands for a direct and illustrative fixation of personal\/intimate experience. Thinking about this situation and the relations included therein, the author labors to a point where the images recede from the subjective sphere and, as part of a process of creating generalizations\/connections, boundaries are blurred between <\/span>she, he, them.<\/span><\/i> Expectation, desire and torment are both radically subjective and experienced personally, as well as \u2018normalized\u2019 and appropriated by all. Feeling images inside herself, and living the images arising from the specific situation \u2013 the sea at night, working on one\u2019s knees at the studio, losing oneself in dating apps, the literature of \u2018extended mind\u2019 \u2013 the author starts depicting the way <\/span>it<\/span><\/i> is running, fleeing and sitting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the most recent series, informed by loneliness, the pandemic and the art residency in Paris, the image is shifting, embodying \u2018strength charms\u2019 and \u2018incrusted landscapes of memory\u2019. Working, at length and systematically, Vernere wields control over the material, <\/span>coaxes<\/span><\/i> it, so that ink transforms or embodies flesh, landscape, emotion, you name it. The flow of ink has been brought across directly from processes of nature, such as a river emptying itself into the sea, spring waters mixing with the soil (\u2018… it\u2019s hard to explain, but the way a fir tree grows and the way ink flows seem the same to me\u2019) and so forth. As the days are spent losing oneself in front of the screen (\u2018… down on my knees in front of a sheet of paper, feverishly checking my phone, expecting who knows what while I\u2019m waiting for the ink to dry\u2019), the fluid landscapes become solid, forms turn angularly mechanical and compositions central. At the same time, there\u2019s a growing need for shelter. These <\/span>new works<\/span><\/i> \u2013 an affirmation of celebrating everyday intimacy \u2013 serve as an allegory of the shackles of life and the infrastructure of the mind, artificial and oppressive frameworks, the very <\/span>solidity<\/span><\/i> of which (like layers of color, paintings that have \u2018blossomed\u2019 on the metal-imitation background covered with cotton paper) is\/must be overcome.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sab\u012bne Vernere <\/b>(b. 1990) holds a master\u2019s degree from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Visual Arts at the Art Academy of Latvia. She has perfected her skills at at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In 2016 she debuted at MVT\u2019s series of exhibitions titled BlumbergsBezgal\u012bba, showcasing Bezkaun\u012bgs \u2013 her bachelor\u2019s thesis \u2013 at an eponymous solo show. Her works have been on show in a number of group exhibitions in Latvia, including the Dubulti Art Station, the Kuld\u012bga Artists\u2019 Residency, the Art Center Br\u016bzis in C\u0113sis, the Great Amber exhibition hall in Liep\u0101ja. Internationally, her works have been exhibited at Nida Artist Colony, Entusiastide Klubi MYU in Tartu, Quartair in the Hague, Beffroi de Montrouge in Paris, The Art Building in Vra (Hj\u00f8rring, Denmark), Centrul de Internes in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and elsewhere. Since 2020 she has been heading the experimental Pilot art space of the Art Academy of Latvia. In fall 2020 she held a solo show in R\u012bga at premises on 40 Br\u012bv\u012bbas street.
