On 1 October from 20:30 till 5:00 everyone was invited to attend Lielais Kristaps Cinema Night. Cinema Night offered the opportunity to watch both a student film programme consisting of 27 films and a programme of films by celebrated cinema makers (directors Ivars Seleckis, Viesturs Kairišs, Laila Pakalniņa, Jānis Putniņš, Una Celma, Inese Kļava and others). The student film proramme was the screening of director Baiba Augstkalna’s dark Ejiet, bērni, rotaļās! (Go, play, children!) and director Anda Podniece’s film Kaķēni (Kitten) about people whose lives have been influenced by the music of Prāta Vētra.
The classic of Latvian black and white cinema Šķēps un roze (Sword and Rose, directed by Leonīds Leimanis, 1959) is particularly noteworthy. The film shows Riga from the hights of the Riga Cathedral tower enabled by special effects created by Viktors Šildknehts. Šildknehts received a special award for his lifetime contribution to Latvian cinematography.
