During Programme No. 13, 3 July until 1 August, 2010, exhibition “Project “Life”” by Latvian artist Paulis Liepa (1978) at the Kim? / RIXC Gallery. The exhibition showcases approximately 20 works that have been created over the past couple of years using basic graphics techniques – collography and cardboard cut.
“Black and white and colour images of silence, yesterday’s tea and good old dreams. About things that have a life of their own and about things that tell their own stories. Things that have grown together with time, with each other and ourselves. And it’s not even intended to look like art. Those are plane tables, technical drawings, visual aids for life as we see it day in, day out. Or as we would like to see it. Project “Life”. Fray, forgotten in the darkest corner of the attic, lost in heaps of paper, turning yellow, accidentally found during the rare Sunday cleanings. Always present, yet almost never completely finished,“ explains the artist.
Paulis Liepa has graduated from Art Academy of Latvia (2003). His first solo show “Paraleloscopia!?” (2004) was well received by art critics and was nominated for Art Award 2005. In 2008, Paulis Liepa received Grand Prix at the VIII Graphic Art Biennial of the Baltic Sea Countries in Kaliningrad, Russia and Annual Award of Music Recording Industry for music video “Esi brīvs” (Be Free, Pikaso, Gustavo and R-viss). Paulis Liepa has been participating in exhibitions since 1996 (solo shows: “Still Life” (2009, “Ferrodrum”, Tartu), “Uz līdzenas vietas” together with Inga Dilba (2008, “Mētras māja”, Aizpute), “Paraleloscopia!?” (2004, RIXC Mediju telpa, Riga)).
