Kim? Contemporary Art Centre
F5 “Gardener”

From November 4 till December 19, 2010 at Kim? / VKN gallery a video installation by a group F5 (Famous Five) will be presented in a separate exhibition „Gardener”, created by Līga Marcinkeviča, Ieva Rubeze and Mārtiņš Ratniks.

F5 tells about their “Gardener”:
Gardener takes care of plants, does everything for them to feel well and be wealthy, and to grow fast. Gardener has to set plants, to layer them, to trim and prune them, with a very precise knowledge how to do it right for each and every plant. When the autumn and winter season comes, gardener has less of a practical work and can concentrate on studies of professional literature. Gardener has to be especially resistant to a changing weather, as he has to take care of his plants, no matter, sun shines or rain falls over the fields.
If Gardener – the one inside you – falls asleep…

F5 have always tried to avoid “social and political topics, actualities”, thus heading in the opposite direction than the still leading tendency – concentration on Zeitgeist. F5 is a group of artists, who have graduated the Latvian Art academy Visual communication Department, where, together with professor Ojārs Pētersons, platform for generating innovative ideas is being created. “Famous Five” since its beginnings has worked rather as a trademark or a recognizable concept, than a group of separate artists.  F5 has represented Latvian contemporary art in important international events – like Venice Biennale in 2005 with a project “Darkness Light-bulb”, and on 2002 in São Paulo Biennial in Brazil with a project “Enjoy the Nice Night!”, and others.
