Kim? Contemporary Art Centre
Chaos No 2

On February 24 and March 10, 2011, at 6 p.m. Kim? invites to attend the text reading workshop titled “Chaos”. Readings will be dedicated to the Chaos theory. Initially the theory has been related to the exact sciences but it can also be used and reflections about it can be made in the arts, for example in the theory of art, in philosophy etc.

The aim of the text reading workshop is to encourage the development of interdisciplinary understanding among intellectuals in Latvia. By gathering professionals and interested audience from various fields, workshop’s mission is to raise discussions about specific notions and to discover their interconnections in various aspects of culture, science and/or fields of arts using the readings and collective analysis of the key texts as the starting point.

The form of workshop: Each reading will be introduced by a lecturer, whose professional activities and academic interest is related to one of the workshop themes, in this case – introduction into practice of the Chaos theory. Participants are asked to apply for the workshops in advance and to prepare by getting acquainted with the handouts (fragments of texts, each of about 10 to 15 pages) in order to be ready for discussions.

In the workshop Chaos No 2 philosopher Raivis Bičevskis will read and comment on fragments from Jürgen Kriz’s “Chaos and Order: Science, Society, Mind” (text in Latvian); philosopher Rinalds Zembahs will read and comment on fragments from Gilles Deleuze’s “What Is Philosophy?” (text in Latvian).

The workshop was held in the Kim? library, Spīķeri, Maskavas str. 12/1. Free entrance.
