Philip Pilekjær, Untitled (Tumbleweed), 2020, seasonal greeting card, edition of 500.
For this quiet summer season, Philip Pilekjær has produced a new work for Kim? in the form of a seasonal greeting card – the kind typically mailed out by institutions and corporations to their clients and business partners.
It features the seemingly benign message of wishing its receiver a happy summer, and is adorned with a Black and White photograph of a tumbleweed which once roamed the plains of the Californian Mojave Desert. In addition, the card is equipped with a crease that allows it to be folded into a free-standing sculpture, ready to be put on display, and so it directly utilizes the institutions network of partners and visitors as its site of presentation.
It’s printed in an edition of 500 and is being mailed out throughout the summer.
Philip Pilekjær (b. 1988) is an artist and editor of PROVENCE Magazine. His work has previously been presented within exhibitions at Christian Andersen (Copenhagen), The Downer (Berlin), Forgo (Berlin), Longtang (Zürich), Silberkuppe (Berlin), Amado Arts Center (Seoul), Kunsthal Charlottenborg (Copenhagen), 9th Berlin Biennial (Berlin), and Parental Guidance (New York) among others.
