Kim? Contemporary Art Centre
Eric Kluitenberg’s lecture “Sustainable non-mobility design”

On Thursday, 3 December at 19:30 everyone was invited to attend the lecture “Sustainable non-mobility design” by Dutch media theorist Eric Kluitenberg. The lecture was dealing with the contradictory topicality – the spread of mobility despite the current economical situation. The lecture was organized by RIXC in collaboration with Kim?.

On the one hand, rights to mobility cannot be denied to any human being; however, on the other hand, it is clear that our planet cannot sustain the hyper-mobility we are experiencing today. Thus new ideas on creation of connection among people and organization of alternative lifestyle less determined by the acceleration of mobility are needed. The lecture invites designers, architects and artists to debate about the possible solutions.

Eric Kluitenberg is a media theorist, writer, the author of “Delusive Space” (2008) and organizer of various culture events. He is currently based at “De Balie” – Centre for culture and politics in Amsterdam, and teaches a course on “Culture and new media” at the University of Amsterdam. He has lectured and published extensively on culture, new media, and cultural politics throughout Europe. Currently “De Balie” and RIXC together with partner organizations are working on new immobility festival “ElectroSmog”, which will take place online from 17 until 20 March, 2010 connecting more than 10 festival places all over the world.

The lecture was a part of the International Cultural Network Management Seminar “Organized Networks” that took  place from 3 until 5 December. It was organized by New Media Culture Centre RIXC in collaboration with Contemporary Culture NGOs Association.
